Using An Acne Diet to Prevent Breakouts
Many people could benefit from an acne diet. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? We almost all have. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.
However, an acne diet can be a hard thing to develop. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Observe and make note of any changes in your skin. Write it all down. You could keep a photo journal. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.
The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:
1. Take in a lot more protein. Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.
2. Keep away from carbohydrates. Do not take all carbs out of your diet. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because compounds in carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. In reality junk food just has a high carb content.
3. Green tea is a must. If at all possible try to drink the real stuff. The best kind of green tea is the kind you brew yourself. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea limits androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.
4. Limit your salt intake. Iodine is usually found in salt. This is the reason why you hear table salt called “iodized salt.” For some with acne, iodine an cause major inflammation.
It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
