Cooking Implements And Cooking Equipment
Far too often people overlook the importance of using the proper tools when cooking fine meals. While there is nothing in the world that can quite compare to cooking with the finest and freshest of ingredients, these things can only be enhanced by making use of the perfect tools for the job at hand.
When it comes to cooking equipment, pots, pans and skillets are of course the most important items. Contrary to what some people believe, not all pots and pans are the same, and one should also remember that price alone is not a good indication of practicality. Pots and pans are all about conductivity, and this is why you find all experienced chefs prefer using heavy gauge pots and pans. The heavy gauge ones tend to heat up evenly, whereas the light gauge ones don’t, and this results in them having hot spots, which in turn cause food to stick. If you really care about the quality of the meals you prepare, then you need to invest in a good set of pots, pans.
If you tend to prepare a lot of meals which require plenty of chopping and cutting, then you don’t only need good quality knives, but you also need ones which are comfortable to work with. It’s amazing how so many people fail to recognize the importance of a good knife when it comes to buying cooking equipment. Well, I suppose it’s quite understandable really, especially if you’ve never prepared meals using good quality knives. Ask any experienced chef, and they tell you just how significant the difference really is between a good knife and a bad one. Besides, if you are willing to invest generously in a set of kitchen knife, you’ll probably have them for the rest of your life, providing you take good care of them.
If like me, you tend to cook plenty of meat, investing in a good jacquard is also a wise thing to do. In facts, this is one of the frequently overlooked cooking tools, and yet they can make a huge difference to the outcome of a meal. Not only does a jacquard do a great job of tenderizing meats, but they also break the surface of meats, which of course makes it possible for marinades and rubs to penetrate the meat in order to provide more flavor. In terms of cooking equipment, this is definitely a "must have", and besides, they don’t cost much either.
No arsenal of cooking equipment would be complete without a good grater, in that these are just one of those cooking tools you cannot go without. Because it’s become increasingly possible to buy "ready-grated" cooking ingredients such as grated cheese, many people feel there’s no long a need for graters. Of course, if you’ve ever used ready-shredded cheese, you know that the flavor is nothing like that of freshly grated cheese. Also, graters are only there for grating cheese, but instead, they can be used for grating almost any type of food, including the likes of chocolate, onions, potatoes, citrus fruits, and etc.
Of course there are many more cooking tools than I could possibly mention here. Those mentioned above simply happen to be among my personal favorites. There are all kinds of appliances that in my humble opinion no kitchen is truly complete without. In addition to these great appliances there are many tools that are simple matters of preference. Do you peel enough potatoes to warrant a special device for doing so or do you simply opt to purchase an ergonomically designed potato peeler and peel them by hand? There are no one size fits all answers when it comes to kitchen tools and many of us are often limited by serious budget constraints and restrictions. My best advice if this is the situation for you is to purchase the best possible quality you can afford and build from there. Even if it means replacing one pot or knife at a time until you can manage a complete set of superior quality cooking tools you will find it well worth the price you’ve paid in the long run.
